The Lord Mayor Show 2010 on 13th November 2010

City YMCA, London was one of the 4 sponsored community groups who will be taking part in this years Lord Mayor Show.

We had put together an exciting and high-energy float. On a central dance floor, groups of young people from our hostels, youth projects and other groups were performing their own specially choreographed routines. With a DJ playing a soundtrack, created by young people, all the performances were designed to demonstrate what City YMCA means to our young people.

It was an exciting event that we were very proud to be taking part in.

The Metro newspaper had a special article on the Lord Mayor Show featuring one of our Youth Workers Andre Kpodonu. You can read the article by clicking this link.

17th World Council of YMCAs, Hong Kong July 2010

The World Alliance of YMCA’s is a confederacy of the 125 national YMCA movements that currently operate worldwide. Every 4 years, a gathering of YMCA’s from around the world takes place and this year, the meeting took place in Hong Kong and was hosted by the Hong Kong and Chinese YMCA.

In July 2010 over 1,100 people from 85 nations gathered to discus the future of the YMCA movement, celebrate the achievements of the last four years, elect the Alliances’ governing members, ratify changes to the movements’ constitution and humbly join in worship.

Two events were held this summer:

City YMCA, London were a part of a 52 member delegation from England. Our Chair of Board of Trustees Robert Thompson and Chief Executive Gillian Bowen represented City YMCA, London at the alliance. The delegation from England also included 17 young people of which Andre Kpodonu(City YMCA Youth Projects) attended due to sponsorship by the YMCA Metropolitan Regional Trust.
